Acute
A disease (or its symptoms) of short duration but typically severe.
Example: He had had a short illness, there had been a brief time of acute suffering, then all was over.

Angina
noun
A condition marked by severe pain in the chest, often also spreading to the shoulders, arms, and neck, caused by an inadequate blood supply to the heart.
Example: I am on invalidity benefit and suffer from angina, high blood pressure, and asthma.

Armistice
noun
An armistice is a formal agreement of warring parties to stop fighting. It is not necessarily the end of a war, as it may constitute only a cessation of hostilities while an attempt is made to negotiate a lasting peace.
Example: Break the armistice immediately and march on the enemy.

Benign
Adj
Having no significant effect, harmless.
Example: When the doctor said my tumor was benign, I was so happy.

Biopsy
noun
A biopsy is the removal of tissue from any part of the body to examine it for disease.
Example: The last false diagnosis was a tumor which I was to have surgery to perform biopsy.

Compliance
noun
The act or process of doing what you have been asked or ordered to do : the act or process of complying.
Example: There has been a low/high rate of compliance with the new law.

Edema
noun
Edema is the build-up of fluid in the body's tissue. Most commonly, the legs or arms are affected.
Example: Multiple incised wounds of scalp; congestion and edema of brain.

Empowerment
adj
Empowerment is the degree of autonomy and self-determination in people and in communities.
Example: The army is now empowered to operate on a shoot-to-kill basis.

Flotilla
noun
A navy organizational unit consisting of two or more squadrons of small warships.
Example: To in a round trip journey the grand flotilla was eager to.

Garrison
noun
A garrison is the collective term for anybody of troops stationed in a particular location, originally to guard it
Example: The approaches to the garrison have been heavily mined.

Guerrilla
noun
Guerrilla warfare is a form of irregular warfare in which small groups of combatants, such as paramilitary personnel, armed civilians, or irregulars, use military tactics including ambushes, sabotage, raids, petty warfare, hit-and-run tactics, and mobility, to fight a larger and less-mobile traditional military.
Example: Douglas, an excellent guerilla leader, captured his own castle and butchered the English garrison.

Howitzer
noun
A howitzer is generally a large ranged weapon that stands between an artillery gun which has smaller, higher-velocity shells fired at flatter trajectories, which fires at higher angles of ascent and descent.
Example: This was carried out by long range, heavy German artillery, which included a huge 42cm howitzer.

Licensure

Licensure means a restricted practice or a restriction on the use of an occupational title.
Example: If you're planning to relocate, contact the nursing licensure agency in the place that you plan to live following your retirement from the military.

Adj
Very virulent or infectious.
Example: Unfortunately, she developed a highly malignant bladder cancer.

Polyp
noun
A polyp is an abnormal growth of tissue projecting from a mucous membrane
Example: In the polyp the nervous tissue is always in the form of a scattered plexus, never concentrated to form a definite nervous system as in the medusa

Stockade
noun
A stockade is an enclosure of palisades and tall walls, made of logs placed side by side vertically, with the tops sharpened as a defensive wall, the word stockade also refers to a military prison in an army camp.
Example: I had not gone a hundred yards when I reached the stockade.

Torpedo
noun
A modern torpedo is an underwater ranged weapon launched above or below the water surface, self-propelled towards a target, and with an explosive warhead designed to detonate either on contact with or in proximity to the target.
Example: There the German torpedo craft and German submarines lay in a safe base only some 60 m.

Truce

A suspension of fighting especially of considerable duration by agreement of opposing forces
Example: When the truce expired in 1183, a permanent peace was ratified at Constance.
